Happy Labor Day From All of Us at KOA!

Happy Labor Day from the Williamsburg KOA! The first Labor day was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City as a public parade of labor organizations. It was made a public holiday in 30 states over the next 12 years and was recognized as an official federal holiday in 1894 to be celebrated on the first Monday of September. Labor Day is a celebration and dedication to all the American workers and what they have achieved socially and economically through the years.

Come and celebrate this holiday with the Williamsburg KOA. There will be family friendly fun and games and weekend. While you are here you can take trip through the ages at Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestowne, or the Yorktown Victory Center. Colonial Williamsburg offers many interactive demonstrations of historical events and the great food is a bonus. If you are looking for something a little more thrilling, spend the day at Busch Gardens! The roller coasters will leave you breathless and the spectacular shows will have you talking all day.

Care Camp Weekend Event!

Camping is a great way to relax and unwind from the stresses of everyday life. Children with cancer face stresses and challenges that few of us can imagine, so what better way to relax than a camping trip!

This month, we are celebrating and donating to the KOA Care Camps foundation, a charity created by KOA to take children with cancer camping across the United States. These Care Camps are staffed by volunteers, nurses, and medical personal who create a safe camping environment where the kids can build new friendships, embrace the great outdoors, and spend time making great memories. The full camping experience is also provided free of charge, as the donations and contributions from campgrounds and donors along with the efforts of volunteers cover all of the costs.

The KOA Care Camps not only provide a safe place to camp, they also strive to give kids the best camping experience ever. Activities like kayaking, shaving cream fights, and paint races take place alongside campground classics like telling stories around the campfire and making s'mores. The Care Camps foundation works to make children's wildest camping dreams come true year after year.

On the weekend of May 11-13th, we are giving campers Saturday night for $20, with all of the profits from those Saturday's going straight to Care Camps. All of the proceeds from our Charity Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning are also going directly to Care Camps. So join us this year in our support for KOA Care Camps and help kids with cancer just be kids for a weekend.

Wishing All Dads a Relaxing Father's Day Weekend

 

Happy Father's Day from the Williamsburg KOA! To all the fathers out there we hope you have a wonderful time today! On June 19, 1910, the governor of Washington state designated the first father's day holiday celebration. It wasn't until 1972 that Father's Day became an official federal holiday by President Richard Nixon.


For some celebration ideas you can treat dad to some golfing on one of the local courses, such as the Kiskiak Golf Course, Kingsmill, or Williamsburg National Golf Club are just a few nearby. Take dad on a fishing trip to the Yorktown River State Park or plan a kayaking adventure! On a beautiful June day, spending it outside with dad could be the perfect gift.

                                    

There is also plenty of things to do in and around the city of Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg is full of events and performances for all ages and interests. Take a trip through time to see how blacksmiths perfected their craft or how the printing press works.

If dad is more interested in thrilling experiences, treat him to a Busch Gardens visit. Ride some of the roller coasters and eat some pretty tasty food!

Spring Arrives in Williamsburg!

Spring is a celebrated season of new beginnings, and it looks incredible in Williamsburg. We can see the sights and sounds of spring everywhere around town, from Colonial Williamsburg to Busch Gardens and back again.

Colonial Williamsburg is in full bloom.The historic gardens are alive with pinks, purples, reds, and yellows. Vibrant gardens aren't the only thing worth seeing, however. Colonial Williamsburg has a full program of events every day celebrating the founding of our nation. On any given day at Colonial Williamsburg, you can hear the words of the founding fathers, see the Continental Army prepare to fight the British, and experience life as it was in the 18th century. You can see that story continue at the Yorktown Victory Center or visit the Jamestown Settlement to see where Colonial America began.

KOA is Opening for the Spring!

Spring is here at the Williamsburg KOA and we are open for your camping adventures! Spring in Williamsburg is always my favorite time of year. The birds are coming back and everything is turning green! The days are getting longer and it's getting warmer. At the KOA, we have many activities for young and experienced to enjoy around the campground. The Williamsburg KOA has many activities for the kids: enjoy jumping pillows, GaGa ball, basketball, movie nights, and many other activities held on the grounds.

There are also many events and activities going on in Williamsburg and the surrounding area to celebrate spring. Visit one of a kind restaurants, such as Food for Thought, the Two Drummers Smokehouse, or Opus 9 Steakhouse. If you are interested in discovering some of the local museums, check out the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown and the Mariner's Museum or the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News. Catch a movie at the Movie Tavern or Regal Cinemas or do a little shopping at Williamsburg Premium Outlets.

Merry Christmas From KOA!

Merry Christmas from the Williamsburg KOA! We hope you are having fun this holiday season with friends and family. Our campground will be open until January 31st for everyone looking for a great winter camping trip. There are many events and activities in Williamsburg and the surrounding areas for you to enjoy!

From now until January 2nd, excluding Christmas Day, Busch Gardens is open for its annual Christmas Town spectacular. The World Most Beautiful Amusement Park shines bright with 8 million twinkling Christmas lights and 1 shining red nose from everyone's favorite reindeer! Verbolten and Tempesto will be open for thrilling roller coaster fun along with other rides and don't miss the great Christmas shows and delicious food. Santa will be there with many of his elf helpers to make your visit magical.

Colonial Williamsburg is putting on many Christmas themed events as well, such as guided tours, historical performances, and displays at the art museums. Make it a tradition to spend Christmas Eve at the community Christmas tree lighting. Stop by and eat at one of their famous taverns or see how people celebrated Christmas in the 18th Century. Try a carriage ride through the town for a unique view of the Revolutionary City. Enjoy ice-skating with the family at Liberty's Ice Pavilion. You can skate into the New Year with a special closing time of 1am on December 31st!

The American Revolution Museum and the Jamestown Settlement are providing a glimpse of a Colonial Christmas through performances and presentations. Listen to stories from the 17th century about Christmas traditions and the challenging times the settlers had to endure. Don't miss out on a visit from the Lord of Misrule "the grand captain of mischief" and his retinue.

At the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News, get ready for the New Year with Noon Year's Eve December 31st. They'll be celebrating the Space Race with a year long program of events that start on New Years Eve. You'll be bale to explore NASA exhibits and talk a walk on the Dark Side with the Star Wars 501st Storm Trooper Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, and Rebel Legions. There will also be a special visit from Bubbles the Clown and the Teeny Tiny Farm traveling petting zoo. The museum is open 9am to 5pm each day and Noon Years Eve special activities run from 11am to 1pm on Decemeber 31st.
